In 1969, a little body shop in Padua, north Italy, started to make a big name for itself, though the owner of the time didn’t know it then.
The company, now known as Orazio Spanesi after its founder, now has established itself as a high level distribution company with branches and centres all round the world.
Back in 1989, Spanesi found that to successfully complete body shop jobs to his own satisfaction, he needed equipment of a more exacting nature than he could find anywhere else.
In fact, Spanesi reckoned he could produce the equipment required himself, and from there the manufacture and distribution dream really took flight.
Today Spanesi’s general headquarters incorporates a 38,500 m² structure, which produces about 80% of the product range. Additionally, the headquarters is home to an 800 m² show-room which also functions as training centre and there is also a technical office which helps customers with their specific requirements, projecting different and complete lay-outs.
Over time, Spanesi has won many accolades, the most notable of which is the silver medal from Equipe Auto of Paris - a showcase of the auto after market industry.
The award was given for the Spanesi Touch product.
This electronic diagnostic system allows a technician to read all necessary measurements of a vehicle’s running gear, including the wheel alignment, in one package.
Touch required enormous investments and years of research to develop and today offers complete control in body repair. Moreover, it is a great tool to verify the condition of a used vehicle.
The award was doubly satisfying for Spanesi as the company was recognised as a second place tie with Bosch, which gives some idea as to the prestigiousness of the award.
Spanesi does recognise that its success is in part due to the company’s presence in France.
For the Italian company to gain a foothold in France, in the face of domestic competition, is no small feat and it has led to a number of French auto manufacturers including Spanesi equipment in their catalogues, much as prestigious Italian auto manufacturers are doing in their country.
Key to the continuing success of the company is its ability to respond quickly and effectively to a constantly changing market.
It is for this reason that Spanesi is a regular attendee of automotive fairs and trade shows including Autopromotec in Bologna, Automechanika in Frankfurt, Motortec in Madrid, Equipe Auto in Paris, Nace, which took place in its last edition in Las Vegas, and, finally CIEC in Beijing, China.
Spanesi is now looking to expand its presence within the global automotive sector, and has instigated partnerships with car manufacturers in Romania, Mexico, North and South America, Russia and the Far East.
As to the future, Spanesi is looking to establish itself in every major market. n
